Alligator Action

February 10, 2010

Alligators will usually lie about in their chosen basking spot and if you don’t invade their space they will stay put. Each one has a different radius that it considers personal space. Some will let you get within 2 or 3 feet and some won’t stay put if you get within twenty feet. One thing is certain, there is nothing slow about it when they decide to move. They don’t just gradually walk away, they explode into motion in the blink of an eye. If you aren’t quick on the trigger you will miss the moment.

You caught it all: background, water reflection, splash, and gator! Oh, did I mention how much I like fried gator tail … {:o)!

Another excellent post, Jim. I love the reflections and especially that action shot. That takes amazing talent to catch that. I’ve shot many alligators since I’ve lived in Florida, but never once caught them in a dive. It’s just too quick. Fantastic reflexes! My hat’s off to you on this shot!
