St. Photios National Shrine

February 26, 2010

It was a pleasant surprise to step into this Greek Orthodox shrine while exploring the old Spanish Quarter. St Augustine is the site where the first Greek people arrived in America in 1768 and this shrine is there to commemorate that fact. I always enjoy photographing in churches and shrines like this because the the colors and detail are so beautiful and the atmosphere is purposefully calm and quiet.

Wine, champagne, etc. No more sleep than usual though. I am the perpetual nightowl, roaming the ship in the wee hours with camera in hand. Photos on deck by moonlight have turned out very well.
