Hands of a Master

April 1, 2010

During the Photoshop World/NAPP photo safari that Moose Peterson and Joe McNally did in Ybor City I photographed Wallace Reyes making cigars by hand in the traditional fashion. Wallace, or Wally as the Ybor locals know him, is one of only 5 Grand Master Cigar Makers in the world. His wife is one of the 5 as well and they are an amazing team when they work together. I had the pleasure of photographing them as they rolled the world’s longest cigar last year.

I love the human feel of this shot, Jim, seeing Wallace’s hands at work surrounded by his implements and tobacco leaves! Excellent composition!! This is a favorite of your recent posts. My monitor is showing sepia. Is that what you did?

Yes, there was a decided lack in vibrant colors within the scene to begin with so I went with something that worked with the overall dominance of the tones of the tobacco.
