Flying Solo

Photographing a live performance such as this usually provides a multitude of challenges. Very low light combined with fast moving action are the first obstacles to overcome. Of course flash is prohibited during such a performance so you are forced to work within the constraints of the dim stage lighting. Shooting from the very back row of the theater doesn’t do anything to help the situation either. Throw in the matter of needing to have really good reaction time because you haven’t seen the choreography in advance and then you have the recipe for a typical dance performance shoot.

I have finally gotten around to putting some material from my recent luxury home shoots over on my real estate site.

Stunning! Excellent action, light and composition. You are so right about the problems with shooting dance. It’s definitely not for someone who doesn’t like to be challenged.
