Passing Storm

October 15, 2010

This is my favorite landscape shot from the recent trip. It was taken after the sun had set but while there was still a bit of orange glow left in the sky above the western horizon. The vertical rock walls that faced toward the west picked up the sky color nicely for a few minutes and the storm clouds took on a very dramatic look during the slow exposure. One of the ironic things about this is that when I pulled the car off the road so that we could all take photos of the scene one member of the group wasn’t all that eager to set up a tripod and commented that there wasn’t enough light to make it worth shooting. Needless to say I immediately pointed out the fallacy of that statement (in a nice way) and this shot does a nice job of proving the point.
