Take a Flying Leap

October 26, 2010

While taking photos for the hang gliding facility at Lookout Mountain I wanted a unique and dramatic angle so I secured permission to put on a safety belt and climb out into a net at the base of the launch ramp. The net held me suspended out on the face of the sheer cliff below the ramp, around 1400 feet above the valley below. It was like being in a hammock with the world’s best view. I got some dramatic shots of the gliders launching from the ramp and then climbed back onto solid ground. I then went down to the landing zone in the valley and worked on getting some more material with pilot Eric Donaldson. It was a great day of shooting in a wonderfully scenic location.

Cool shots, Jim. I especially like the one where the glider is coming directly at you.
